CheckMate Small Business Solutions is a provider of payroll, time and attendance and other employer services to small and medium-sized businesses as well as not-for-profit organizations.


CheckMate Small Business Solutions was founded on the idea to allow business owners and non-profit organizations to focus on what is core to their business success. Our goal is to relieve clients from administrative  and regulatory burdens; reduce costs associated with payroll and labor management; and more importantly to provide the best in customer service. CheckMate is not only reliable, but our clients can rest assured that we are are both accurate and flexible to their business needs. Checkmate is consistently looking for ways that we can help our clients and we view our client relationships as a true partnership.

CheckMate Small Business Solutions believes that our clients should receive an honest value. Our pricing is straight forward and simple. As a partner, you should not feel "nickel-and-dimed" for simple  reports, solutions and fixes that many other national and local payroll companies will typically charge.


CheckMate Small Business Solutions Inc. is privately owned and located in the Portland area of the Pacific Northwest.

Sunny Zavada - Payroll Administrator

Sunny is the primary contact for day-to-day payroll needs.  She strives to provide excellence in customrer service delivery and does so in a cheery and friendly manner. 


Laurie Curry - Client Services Manager

Laurie manages the payroll function and is responsible for all new client implementations.  Laurie continuously reviews existing client accounts to ensure they are taking advantage of all the features of their products.  The goal is to continuously improve efficiencies and reduce costs to the client.  Laurie enjoys helping new busineses get started with payroll and letting them focus on their core business.  Laurie has over 30 years experience in payroll and human resources.


Anne Burgess - Tax Accountant

Anne has worked at our company for 16 years.  She specializes in personal, business, and payroll taxes.  Anne works with clients to help them plan for the best business tax advantages and new business start-up counseling.

Peter Davis - Vice President

Peter Davis started his own publishing business in 1990. In 1999 he realized the internet had changed the way business was done in that field and so he became a Licensed Tax Preparer and joined his wife Eve in her new business.

Eve Davis - President

Eve Davis became a Licensed Tax Preparer in 1996. In 1998 she became a Licensed Tax Consultant and she started In or Out Tax Service with her husband Peter in 1999. She started her own business because she was able to combine her love of dealing with complex tax laws with helping people.  Eve and her husband Peter purchased CheckMate in July 2014.
